McGuffey Hall
Ohio University
Location:
Athens, Ohio
Construction Cost:
$800,000
McGuffy Hall is one of the original buildings on the campus of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Ohio University wanted to preserve the outward appearance of this building, but update the interior spaces to accommodate a large meeting room in the lowest level for the Board of Trustees. Headroom in the building was minimal. We designed story high trusses both in the corridor walls of the first floor to support the first, second, and roof structures. These trusses were designed with door size openings for access to the offices on each side of the center corridor. The basement floor was lowered to provide adequate ceiling height for the meeting space. The exterior of the building was cleaned and restored, but the appearance was unchanged.
