SMBH Presents at “Building the Future” on OSU’s Interdisciplinary Research Facility

The Central Ohio Chapter of the American Concrete Institute's next monthly meeting features our very own Partner + Director, Joe Noser, and Project Engineer, Jeremy Lewis!

Jeremy Lewis will be moderating the presentations given by Joe Noser and Lithko's Alex Wall. They'll be discussing the uniqueness of this 6-story, 305,000-square foot, $220,000,000 laboratory that will serve biomedical, life sciences, engineering, environmental sciences, and other disciplines at The Ohio State University. Additionally, two floors of the facility will be dedicated to the OSU Comprehensive Cancer Center including its new Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology.

Joe Noser will be showcasing the unique structural technology used, called voided slabs - consisting of oval spheres in the slab to reduce the amount of concrete, resulting in a thicker slab that weighs less. This is the first building to use voided slabs in Ohio and the tenth in the United States. Alex Wall will share information on the IRF's mega-pour foundation that used 550 tons of rebar and 6,700 cubic yards of concrete, poured at 400 cubic yards per hour.

Come enjoy dinner and learn about this fantastic project on Thursday, September 2nd at The Boat House at Confluence Park! You can find additional information, including ticket prices, here.
