SMBH Volunteers at the 2019 Special Olympics Opening Ceremony

SMBH volunteered for the Opening Ceremonies of the 2019 Special Olympics, and we had a great time! It was hot, but still a beautiful day, and we loved seeing the athletes so excited about competing. A big thanks goes to the Special Olympics for having us!

SMBH Volunteers at Lifecare Alliance

SMBH Volunteers at Lifecare Alliance

A group of SMBH team members helped with Lifecare Alliance’s Meals on Wheels program over the weekend. We were happy to lend a hand delivering meals to those not capable of going out to get food themselves. After splitting into groups of two, we braved the beginning of the snowstorm to deliver over 50 meals around the greater Columbus area.

Everyone who participated said that it was a great experience that would easily be repeatable once you’re trained the first time. As a returning volunteer, you can even request the route you want to work. One of our groups was interested in doing their same route again because they had made quick friends with those they were delivering to, like Beverley on the far east side. “She answered her door, and was just a super sweet lady. Her neighbors cared about her too, making sure to ask us if Beverley was doing alright when we left,” said Controller Dawn Becker. One of our engineers thought it was so easy, that they are even thinking about volunteering as a date activity!
