New Blacklick Woods Watch Tower & Canopy Walk Is A Little Bit Magical

Central Ohio has been buzzing about the new canopy walk and watch tower recently opened at Blacklick Woods! Ascending the 72-foot zig-zag staircase feels like a mini-adventure in and of itself, but once at the top, it opens up to the canopy walk, featuring a wide boardwalk that is 40 feet in the air and goes for an eighth of a mile through the canopy of native Ohio trees. An elevator provides easy access to the Canopy Walk, making it ADA-accessible for wheelchair users. It offers a viewing platform 55 feet above the forest floor and multiple immersive nature experiences, including three rope bridges, a hammock-style cargo net, a giant treehouse with a climbing wall, and a fireman's pole.

The new, almost magical, 360-degree view of the 640-acre park allows visitors to explore one of Ohio's oldest and most ecologically diverse woodlands, including white oak swamp woods, beech-maple forests, seasonal swamp ponds, prairies, fields, and a golf course. Specialized feeders with bird-attracting feed have been placed along the canopy walk to attract birds like the blue-headed vireo, Blackburnian warblers, and red-bellied woodpeckers. The structure was designed to integrate with its natural surroundings, and construction was planned to ensure minimal environmental impact on the site.

The attraction is open all year, but now is a great time to visit and enjoy the last few minutes of summer from a new vantage point. Don't want to deal with the heat? That's okay! Make your visit during the next few months for a magical start to autumn. We can only imagine how beautiful it will be when the leaves start to turn!
