Is it already October? It sure came quickly, but we’ve done a lot in the past few months, so it must be true. Between our conferences, presentations, and fun days at the office it’s been too busy to notice the time go by.
Conferences have been fast and furious this season. Since August, we’ve attended at least 5 conferences: OFCC Conference, the Columbus Chamber of Commerce Retail Summit, the ACEC HR Forum, SEAoO Annual Conference, and the Tilt-Up Convention. We love conferences because they provide invaluable insight, experiences, and networking opportunities for our team members. Above and beyond learning the newest design trends and tools, going to conferences gives us a chance to share our knowledge of structural engineering with other experts and innovators to further the industry on the whole.
Similarly, SMBH is committed to engaging in our field locally in Columbus. In fact, our President Stephen Metz just started his three-year term on the Board of Trustees at the Columbus Landmarks Foundation. Check out the fun he was having at his first meeting, which was a visit to Columbus Architectural Salvage.
Earlier this month, our Director of Technology and BIM Division Leader Jerry Marselle and Engineer Murtadha Al-Shaikhli presented “Bringing REVIT Into Your Life” at Columbus State Community College. Equally as dedicated to learning as we are to teaching, our Director of the Industrial Division Rob Hooper is currently working his way through the 2019-2020 ACEC Rising Leader Program.
Because we’re always so busy with projects, conferences, and presentations, we try to fit in a good number of events that we do in the office just to have a little fun. The past couple of months have been particularly entertaining with the Columbus State Community College’s Taste the Future event, Lemonade Day, Hawaiian Shirt Day, Bow Tie Day, our Annual Employee Appreciation BBQ, Trail Mix & Video Game Day, the Columbus Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Clambake, Taco Day, and Golf Outings with the Builders Exchange of Central Ohio, AIA Columbus, and our annual golf outing for all of our team members.
