The Joseph Hotel is a 135 room boutique hotel located in the Short North district of Columbus. The hotel is located a few blocks north of the Columbus Convention Center. It services the convention center and the needs of the Short North district. Amenities in the hotel include a restaurant, bar and conference space.
The hotel is a 10 story, post tensioned concrete structure supported with an auger cast pile foundation system. Lateral loads are resisted by the concrete shaft walls around the stair and elevator shafts. The building completely fills the site, resulting in construction immediately adjacent to existing buildings on the north and south sides and High Street to the west and an alley to the east. The partial basement was strategically located so that underpinning of the existing buildings on the north and south sides would not be required, reducing cost. It was also located so that excavation shoring would not be required on the High Street side, again reducing construction cost.
